The Department of Housing & Economic Development (DHED) promotes economic development in Chicago by helping new and existing companies meet their goals for growth while creating jobs and improving the quality of life for city residents. DHED is also responsible for preparing and implementing community plans, preserving the city's architectural and historic landmarks, protecting its waterfronts and creating new public greenspace.
