Benefits of Membership Membership in the West Loop Community Organization opens up the opportunity to have an active voice in real decisions affecting the neighborhood - parks, commerce, schools, traffic, and safety - all the important issues that impact our everyday lives. Members enjoy expanding their social network - from mingling at the monthly West Loop Night to seeing a friendly and familiar face at their favorite coffee house. Our members truly do feel a sense of community.
And, as a member, you'll be 'in the loop' with important updates and have access to valuable information. More specifically, members receive the following:
- Updates and notices on local planning and development issues
- Potential WLCO committee opportunities
- Opportunity to work closely with 27th Ward Alderman Walter Burnett, Jr. and 2nd Ward Alderman Bob Fioretti to discuss community issues
- Notification of community meetings, including Town Hall meetings, meetings for proposed development projects, as well as 12th District Police CAPS beat meetings
- Access to local business and community information
- Specialty publications such as weekly and monthly newsletters, Discover the West Loop and West Loop Membership Directory
The WLCO is committed to making the West Loop a vibrant and safe environment. Members and the organization work together throughout the year on such initiatives as:
- Business Networking Events and Educational Seminars to help foster beneficial relationships between West Loop businesses, as well as educate businesses on financial assistance programs and workshops available through the City of Chicago
- Social events (Mixers/ Neighborhood Business Events and Walks/ Taste of Randolph Street/ Randolph Street Market Festival) to create opportunities for neighbors to meet and build relationships with each other
- Creating a long-term vision of planned residential and commercial development
- Fostering a harmonious relationship between businesses and residents
- Working with local officials to ensure that an adequate amount of City services are allocated to support the continuous growth of the neighborhood
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR MEMBERSHIP, ALL MEMBERS MUST RESIDE OR HAVE A BUSINESS WITHIN THE WEST LOOP BOUNDARIES.
The West Loop neighborhood is bound by Ashland Avenue on the west, the Chicago River on the east, Grand Avenue on the north and the Eisenhower Expressway on the south.
